Whooping Cough????

I took Joseph to the Dr. today because he has been coughing since Friday and he is supposed to have his surgery on Monday so I need him healthy. Anyways we are visiting with the Dr. and he asks me what kind of cough it is and gives me 2 examples. I pick the first one and he gets a panic look on his face and asks me if I am sure and I say yes and then he says that that means that Joseph may have whooping cough! Then he leaves the room and comes back in and sticks something in my baby's nose and says that I need to go straight to a lab and get some blood drawn. He also says that Joseph and I need to stay home for the next five days and there is no way that he is healthy enough to have surgery on Monday. He says that hopefully the blood test will tell us that it is a virus but either way the surgery needed to be rescheduled. So Joseph and I left and we went to the lab and he was such a good boy! I called both my Mom and my Mother-in-law and they both said that they do not think that it is whooping cough so we are going to hope that they are right. I will let you know the results of the blood test when we get them.

I have to give a little follow-up story to my "Victory" post. Anna never did get used to taking the pills and in the meantime Emma got one of the sores so she had to take the same medicine and she tried both the liquid and the pills and she decided that she would go with the liquid and she was a trooper and even reminded me everyday to give it to her. Well, last night Anna decided that if Emma could do it so could she so she suddenly wanted to take the liquid! She stood by the counter, opened her mouth and took the liquid! I could not believe my eyes! She was so proud of herself. I then explained to her that her 10 days were up and she did not need the medicine anymore and she said ok. Hopefully she will be this easy next time she has to take something and we do not ever have to go through holding her down ever again! I love my kids!

Oh, that is so cute that Emma would actually remind you to give her her medicine! That is awesome! I am sorry about your baby's cough. That has to be SO frustrating!!!

Sometimes all you need is someone to be the example. If one kid says dinner is gross, then nathan will usually not even try it. Such a pain! If everyone says mm this is good then he will eat it all up. I hope everything goes well with the surgery and that he is healthy at the time of it!

Fascinating. Since BOTH of my kids have had a cough, and a big one at that for 3 weeks now, and I've been to the doctor with each of them, he never even batted an eye at me that it could be one cough or another. We'll see what he says tomorrow when I take Max in for his "well" check and he STILL has a cough. Here's hoping that yours is not as dire as your doctor made it seem.
